Ephesians 6:10-17
Dress to Destroy
Its an amazing thing how we dress when we go into the public eye; we put on our finest clothes, our most dazzling jewelry and our finest fragrance to impress someone or the world itself. We want the world to think we have it altogether while we are tormented internally to a degree of more self pity than joy. We want nothing better than to be recognized as a man or women of power because of the way we dress. We want the world to think because we have a $400.00 suit, a $175.00 silk tie and a $235.00 pair of shoes on that we are on top and can't be touched. That's what the devil wants you to think so when he finishes playing with your mind he can kick you to the curb with nothing. Then the world that you loved to impress looks down on you as though you never existed, as though you have become a thorn in there flesh. What happen to you? They ask, and you not knowing who to turn to or who to call, say nothing in your own behalf.
Paul, the apostle of Jesus Christ sits jailed .as he writes to the Ephesians telling them all about obedience to parents, husbands and wives submitting them one to another. But beginning in verse 10 of chapter 6 he shifts into high gear saying. Finally my brethren be strong in the Lord and in the power of HIS MIGHT Then Paul says, put on the whole armor of God , that you may be able to stand against the wiles(TRICKERY) of the devil. Paul says that it is not against flesh and blood we wrestle against, but principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world and against spiritual wickedness in high places. These high places are where you thought you were when you thought you had it going on. You did everything in your MIGHT to dress to impress
Consider your ways to God's ways; consider that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood which the world wrestles against daily. Consider spiritual wickedness in high places, without the whole armor of God we can't stand! Then Paul breaks it down in verse 14 saying Stand therefore, having your lions gird about with truth. And having on the breastplate of righteousness, girding your lions simply means securing anything that that may make you fall. Then the breastplate of righteousness is what is needed to stand before God, demons and man.
Then Paul says, that we are to shod our feet with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. We are to be ready to share the good news in season and out of season, feet running toward the mark of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about peace, God's word say "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, which bring glad tidings of good things! Paul then says that above all. Taking on the shield of faith wherewith you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked, the devil is going to shoot dart after dart at us to shake our faith enough for us to give up, but we have to come to the conclusion and believe that if God be for me. Who can be against me? Trusting in his holy word, Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you, what an awesome God we serve.
And finally Paul adds we must take the helmet of salvation which is a very important part of the armor of God. It covers the mind, keeps out negative thoughts, keeps the mind on the Kingdom of God. Also he implies that the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. God's word is truth; it is strong, and mighty in power. It's a covering and it's full of peace and sharper than any two edged sword.
